Utilities:
The house is supplied by mains electricity and has it's own water supply. There is also a backup generator and solar system. Cooking is by bottled gas which is supplied by the owner. Electricity is via a pre payment meter which is the only method in Gambia. Initially the meter will be loaded with enough power for a couple of days but ongoing costs are the responsibility of the renter. This is simply because the usage very much depends upon how many aircon units are run and for how long. Typically the cost of electricity is only 600d per week £10.
The water supply is safe but there is also a 20l bulk cooler for drinking water for which 20l bottles can be purchased for only 100d /£1.40.
Shopping:
Sanyang village which is a walk of about 1000m has a variety of small local shops, petrol station, local market, and a number of street sellers. Bread fresh fruit and vegetables, frozen chicken, and basic essentials are readily available. However the owners recommend a bulk shopping trip to the Senegambia area where a wide range of products are readily available in several supermarkets. The Fishing Village is on Paradise beach a walk of 1000m. There you can see the local fishing fleet and purchase the freshest of fish directly from the boats.
Restaurants & Bars
There are several reasonable lodges on Paradise Beach which offer food all day until late in the evening also in the village there a some local restaurants as well as two recently opened bars. Most of the bars have WIFI although the signal can be very unreliable.
Transport:
Renting a car is certainly the most convenient option, but local taxis are readily available and cost very little. From the house to the village is 50d less than £1. We can suggest a couple of very reliable drivers who are also excellent guides who offer a variety of day trips. The cheapest form of transport is the Ghillie Ghillie, a local mini bus of which there are hundreds traveling the main routes of Gambia. It is an experience but does not suit all.
The House:
Within a large secluded walled garden offering privacy and security approx 1000m from Paradise Beach, Sanyang Creek, and the Fisherman's centre. The village of Sanyang is also around 1000m walk in the opposite direction.The gardener / security guard has a small house within the grounds and is on hand to ensure your comfort and safety. All of the windows are fitted with mosquito mesh and there are nets over all the beds. However it should be noted that these not really required.

The kitchen is fully equipped including microwave, fridge freezer, utensils, pots pans, washing machine outside there is a barbeque and wood smoker. There are two spacious lounge areas, satellite television, DVD, Music System. There is an internet connection but due to the remote location it can be very erratic. A maid service is not included as many people prefer to do their own thing in their own time rather than be disturbed by the comings and goings of staff. However a full maid service can be arranged if required.
Outside:
There is a swimming pool with sunbathing patio, a shaded veranda for dining or relaxing in the shade. The garden has a variety of mature trees which aids privacy while attracting large numbers of exotic birds and offering some wonderful shaded areas. The perimeter of the house has been planted with lemon grass which keeps mosquitoes away. In fact the entire garden is as mosquito free as it is possible to be in West Africa.
Emergencies:
The owner who lives nearby is always available to assist in the event of an emergency or just in case anything goes wrong. He can be contacted 24/7 on the house telephone. In the case of medical emergencies the house has a first aid kit and there is a clinic in Sanyang.
